Radicals Approaches to Environmental Problems and the Politics of Climate Change

admin July 22nd, 2009

As climate change legislation roils around mainstream media and the legislature and radical communities and commentators also pick up on it, it appears that radical discussions are not any more immune to the humbling enormity of the issue than is popular discourse. To be sure, there is no lack of analysis of the complex dynamics and social implications for proposed solutions. I like your blog. Very intelligent analysis, though it doesn’t seem you actually got into the “radical response” yet. A future post?

I have begun to piece together ideas about how the mechanics I hint at here can be operationalized into creating solutions. A big issue facing radicals, though, is the role of technology and the social, economic and political systems which support it. Radicals must be willing to step back from technology that maintains an exclusionary paradigm and support small-scale, self-managed and easily learned energy options.

But yes, this is coming soon. I am currently working on a few journal submissions and conference applications that have been taking time away. Luckily, the topics and issues are the same, so the fruits of that labor will appear here as well.

I like your blog as well, also well thought-out. Are you still at Hampshire?

I agree wholeheartedly. Looking forward to the fruits of your labors and good luck with the journal submissions.

Thanks for checking out our blog. It’s a pretty good project, haven’t used it in a while though. Hopefully we’ll get back to posting this year though. Maybe even another radio show in the works. We’re both still at Hampshire – senior year this year. Where are you in school?

I just finished a Master’s in Energy and Environmental Policy and this fall I am beginning a PhD program in Sociology at the New School. Pretty excited for it too!
